Lepricon to Use Chainlink VRF for Provably Fair Selection of Winner in Pot O’ Gold NFT Draw
Lepricon, the blockchain-based gaming and prediction platform, is delighted to announce our planned use of Chainlink Verifiable Randomness Function (VRF) within the upcoming Pot O’ Gold NFT draw. Chainlink VRF is an industry-leading secure and verifiable random number generator (RNG) that’s purpose-built for smart contracts, providing consuming applications with on-chain cryptographic proof of the random number’s integrity as being tamper-proof.
Lepricon will use the randomness supplied by Chainlink VRF to select the winners of a draw, where one of the seven Pot O’ Gold NFTs will be rewarded to one of the 90 contributors who took part in our initial NFT sale. By using Chainlink VRF, we ensure the draw is provably fair to all contributors, an essential consideration given the utility of the Lucky Pot O’ Gold NFT — the holder is guaranteed an unlimited lifetime APY of 77% within our L3P native governance token staking pools.
Providing Integrity to Random Elements Within Lepricon
Lepricon is a platform aimed to provide hyper-casual games for the general public. It’s built using blockchain technology and has its native governance token, L3P. Three games developed in-house will accompany the Lepricon main-net launch, followed by the regular release of in-house and acquired content.
The first game offered is KQJ, a fun card-based prediction game. Followed by Bitpool, an intuitive Bitcoin price prediction game, and then FansPredict, an exciting sports, and real-world events prediction game. Lepricon will also offer staking and liquidity mining opportunities to those that hold L3P, along with game-changing power ups and benefits to users who purchase our super-powered NFTs.
When we announced our first NFTs in early March, we stated our intention of hosting a random draw to airdrop 1 of 7 Lucky Pot O’ Gold NFTs to one of our original contributor’s wallets. As stated above, the Lucky Pot’ Gold NFT contains the ultimate power-up, guaranteeing the holder a minimum of 77% APR for life on L3P staked within Lepricon’s native staking platform, which is planned to launch later in April. We selected Chainlink VRF to determine the winner of this draw because it ensures all contributors have an equal opportunity of earning the Lucky Pot’ Gold NFT, with no avenue for anyone — the oracle, external entities, or even Lepricon team — to tamper with the process.
At a smart contract level, Chainlink VRF works by combining block data that is still unknown when the VRF request is initiated with the oracle node’s pre-committed private key to generate both a random number and a cryptographic proof. Chainlink VRF is programmed only to accept the random number input if the node provides a valid cryptographic proof, and a node can only generate a valid proof if the VRF process is tamper-proof. Therefore, users have automated and verifiable assurances directly on the blockchain that winners are fairly and securely selected. Important, Chainlink VRF runs natively on Polygon main-net, making it very low-cost.
Our upcoming draw gives the technical team at Lepricon a chance to use Chainlink VRF for a real-world purpose and become familiar with its proper implementation. Upon success, we will look to deploy Chainlink VRF across the entire Lepricon gaming platform to power a wide variety of gaming applications that rely on randomness.
